The inspiration fort his organization in the 1960's was the pending destruction of the Podunk House and Indian Trading Post which was built in 1836 by John Cook for George Thorp. The house was relocated to the property on the corner of Torrey & Ray Rds and lived in for many years by John & Frances Judson.
Mr & Mrs William Watkins purchased the property from the Judson heirs and lived in the house for several years. The Watkins built a new house adjacent to their original home so had no further use for the old residence. They deeded it to Clarence Miller, Russell Judson & Harvey Swanebeck , with the idea, that by the concerted effort of some of the interested citizens, a structure of such historical value might be spared from destruction.
